Abstract:

Digitisation has enabled new and innovative methods of access and preservation for audiovisual collections. This can take different forms depending on the type of collection and its intended usage. For example, a television broadcast archive can have very specific on-air requirements and system integration needs, where as a war oral history archive has embargoed material that needs to be treated in a secure manner. Collections with cultural significance need to be disseminated through digital educational streams to enrich cultural awareness. This presentation will describe three unique digitisation projects undertaken by DAMsmart for The National Archives of Fiji, The Australians at War Film Archive, and The Radio Television Hong Kong Archive. Detailed will be distinctive requirements for each project such as; intensive media conservation and treatment, digitisation process, file based quality control, time based transcription search, lossless segmentation, digital archive build and population, and file based delivery.
